India win by 208 runs against Bangladesh in Hyderabad

IND WIN BY 208 RUNS V/S BANGLADESH

Bangladesh were bowled out for 250 in the fourth innings as India clinched the one-off Test match in Hyderabad by 208 runs on Monday.

Riding on Ishant Sharma's superb spell and the magic of both the spinners, India outclassed Bangladesh to register a comprehensive victory by 208 runs in the one-off Test in Hyderabad. With the win, the hosts also extended their unbeaten streak to 19 matches in Tests and 20 at home.


From Bangladesh, Mahmudullah kept his team afloat with his aggressive yet persevered innnings in the morning session after experienced batsmen, Shakib Al Hasan and Mushfiqur Rahim, disappointed with their poor and rash shots on Day 5. India will now play Australia in the four-match series beginning from February 23 at Pune.

Indian Test team likely to be retained by selectors

Barring any surprises, the selectors are likely to retain the same 16-member squad that figured in the 208-run victory over Bangladesh when they meet to pick the team for the upcoming four-match Test series against Australia.

With there being no word on the availability or otherwise of Bengal speedster Mohammed Shami, who got injured during the five-Test rubber against England and subsequently lost his father, the four-member pace attack chosen for the one-off Test against Bangladesh is likely to be retained.

Fourth seed Grandmaster Dronavalli Harika was held to a surprising draw by lower ranked Shamima Akter Liza of Bangladesh in the first game of the first round of the Women's World Chess Championship in Tehran. Harika, tried hard with black pieces but Shamima gave a tough competition to Indian star.

Bangladesh were bowled out for 388 shortly before lunch on day four, to trail India by 299 after the first innings. India chose not to enforce the follow-on and set an improbable target of 459 for the visitors.

Ravichandran Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja’s strikes in the final session have rocked Bangladesh. At stumps on day 4, Bangladesh are 103/3, needing 356 more for a win on the final day.

Ravichandran Ashwin’s two wickets and Ravindra Jadeja combined to wreck Bangladesh in the final session on day 4. For the visitors, Shakib Al Hasan held firm and he, along with skipper Musfiqur Rahim will be the key on the final day of the one-off Test in Hyderabad. At stumps, India need seven wickets for victory while Bangladesh require a further 356 more runs for victory

India to fight against Pakistan in the final of the T20 Cricket World Cup for Blind after Pakistan beat England by 147 runs in the second semi-final at the KSCA Ground in Karnataka on Saturday. The final will be played at M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Banglore on Sunday.

Resuming at the overnight score of 41/1, Bangladesh were off to the worst possible start as a terrible mix-up led to Tamim Iqbal being run out for 24. Umesh Yadav's pinpoint throw at the non-striker's end was collected cleanly by Bhuvneshwar Kumar, who took the bails off before Tamim could complete a double, after a mid-pitch mix-up with Mominul Haque.

A strong resistance by the Bangladeshi middle order ensured the tourists kept the Indian bowlers at bay at close of play on Day 3 of the only Test match being played at Hyderabad. Bangladesh ended the day at 322/6 with captain Mushfiqur Rahim unbeaten on 81*, in response to the host's mammoth first innings total of 687/6 declared

 A 60th minute goal by Gonzalo Peillat ensured the home team Uttar Pradesh Wizards drew with Kalinga Lancers 2-2, denting the visitors chance of climbing back on top of the points table in a thriller of a game here at the Coal India Hockey India League on Friday.
It was a dramatic first quarter with the Uttar Pradesh Wizards, nudged by the support an energetic home crowd, got off to a rollicking start living up to the attack posed by Kalinga Lancers. Forward Akashdeep Singh, who has played a crucial role for Uttar Pradesh Wizards, showed class when he beat defender Amit Rohidas into the circle after a good assist by VR Raghunath to earn his team their first PC. However, the powerful drag flick by skipper Raghunath was brilliantly saved by goalkeeper Andrew Charter.

Wriddhiman Saha blasted a century while Ravindra Jadeja notched up his fifth fifty as India declared their innings on 687/6. Earlier, Virat Kohli notched up his fourth double century. Umesh Yadav struck in his first over by getting rid of Soumya Sarkar as Bangladesh ended day 2 on 41/1, trailing by 646 runs.

Virat Kohli created a record scoring his 4th double century in 4th consecutive series, all 4  coming up as the Captain of the side.

India reached 206 for two at tea on the first day of the one-off Test against Bangladesh, who had their backs to the wall on their maiden visit to India, at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Uppal on Thursday.
Cheteshwar Pujara and Murali Vijay set India a platform from where skipper Virat Kohli took off in pursuit of a total big enough to shut Bangladesh out in the one-off Test at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium at Uppal here on Thursday.
The fifth century partnership between Vijay and Pujara this season, trumping Vijay Hazare-Russi Modi’s four in six innings ages back, followed by Kohli’s 111 not out saw India finish strong with 355 for three on Day One of the Test.
At stumps Kohli, who got his 16th century, was with Ajinkya Rahana (45) who is making a comeback from injury. The two have added 122 runs to put up team's total 356/3.
The only time Bangladesh looked to be in the game was during the first 10 overs when the ball did a bit on the fresh surface. The visitors got the wicket of KL Rahul off the fourth ball of the match when he played on, but from thereon, barring a few chances that were squandered or where luck favoured India, it was a grind.

Indian captain Mithali Raj is not taking lightly their next match against Ireland tomorrow as a win could make her team the first to ensure a berth in the Super Six stage of the ICC Women’s World Cup Qualifier 2017. Nothin nothing more than a win, Mithali is also planning to groom young players of her team in the matches ahead. “We’ve not played Ireland in this format for a long time. We can’t take them lightly because we have seen that in both groups, teams are coming close to a total of 200, so we need to post more than that to be on the safe side,” Mithli said.

“I definitely want my batting line-up to fire like we did against Sri Lanka and continue to have our bowlers to be disciplined because wickets here are good to bat on and may not really assist the spinners.”

India thrash Thailand by 9 wickets

India earned a comprehensive nine-wicket victory over minnows Thailand in the ICC Women's World Cup qualifer, played at the Colombo Cricket Club Ground on Wednesday. India shot out Thailand for a paltry 55 before cantering to a nine wicket-win in their second match of the tournament. The match turned out be to a lopsided affair with India bowling out Thailand in 29.1 overs before jogging to the finishing line in 12.4 overs with Thirush Kamini and Veda Krishnamurty staying unbeaten on 24 and 17 respectively.

Star player Harmanpreet Kaur was the only player to be dismissed in the Indian innings.

Indians failed to win any medal with top cyclist Deborah Herold crashing out at the pre-quarterfinal stage on the third day of competitions in the Saksham Asian Track Cycling Championships here today.

Deborah lost out to Jun Hong Lin of China in Women's Elite Sprint event pre-quarterfinals. The Indian held onto her position till the second last lap, and tried her best to chase Lin, but her efforts went in vain in the end. The Andaman and Nicobar cyclist had finished fourth in her favourite 500m time trial event yesterday.

India and South Africa had a great opening of their campaigns at ICC Women's World Cup Qualifier 2017 which commenced in Colombo on Tuesday. Left hander Devika Vaidya (89) contributed the most runs to help India defeat Sri Lanka by 114 runs in Group A match at the P Sara Stadium, while South Africa scored a 63 runs victory over Pakistan in Group B match.

Kings XI Punjab have appointed Satish Menon as Chief Executive Officer and Rajeev Khanna as the Chief Operating Officer of the franchise for the upcoming season of Indian Premiere League (IPL).

Menon is a veteran in the media business with a cumulative experience of 35 years comprising print, television and sports marketing.

A lawyer by profession, Rajeev comes with over 16 years of experience in the sport industry. He has previously headed operations for Rajasthan Royals and is currently also the advisor to the Rajasthan Government on sports. He has been associated with Kings XI franchise since 2016 as General Manager, Operations.

India opened their account in the Asian Track Cycling Championships with a bronze medal in the junior women's team sprint event on the opening day of the competitions here today.
The Indian duo of Shushikala Agashe and Aleena Reji bagged the third spot after beating Korea in the third-fourth place race at the Indira Gandhi Indoor Stadium velodrome here.
The home team clocked 36.677 seconds while the Korea pair of Jeong Seolhwa and Ha Jieun clocked 36.735 seconds.

Indian pacer Ishant Sharma, England's limited-overs skipper Eoin Morgan and former Australia pace spearhead Mitchell Johnson are among seven players who have listed themselves at the highest base price of Rs 2 crore (approx $298,000) for IPL-10 player auction.

England all-rounders Ben Stokes and Chris Woakes, Sri Lanka captain Angelo Mathews and Australian fast bowler Pat Cummins are the rest of the players in this bracket.

India's run of wins continues in T20 World Cup for Blinds

INDIA'S RUN OF WINS CONTINUES

Indian blind cricket team defeated Australia by a massive difference of 128 runs in the T20 World Cup for Blind at the Raja Girl College in Kochi. India scored a huge 272 for no loss in their allotted 20 overs with openers Sunil and Muhammad Farhan hitting an unbeaten ton and an undefeated half century, respectively. Sunil smashed 163 not out off 72 balls with the help of 29 boundaries, while Farhan hit 53 off 35 balls before being retired hurt. The opening pair put up on an unbroken 199 runs together in 15 overs, which took the game away from the Aussies.
The home team got a comprehensive win.
